LONGEVITY TIPS
- Do not drive quickly on bumpy or rutted roads.
This could ruin the front wheel alignment and later cause lower fuel economy,
accelerated tire wear and tougher handling. Always drive slowly on roads that
are not smooth and flat.
- If it is necessary to drive over a speed bump or
pothole, do so slowly. Hit the obstruction squarely, that is, straight
on. Try not to hit the obstruction while turning; this places more stress on
steering components.
- It may be necessary to obtain a periodic alignment
to keep your steering geometry within specifications. Front wheel
alignment will gradually change as steering and suspension components wear from
use. Furthermore, when suspension springs weaken with age and sag, or bushings
wear away, the car rides lower. This too creates misalignment. As a result,
rapid tire wear may occur at some parts of the tire(s) since the car load has
shifted (from the tire's perspective). Worn steering or suspension components
will force the tires away from the straight, true course ahead. The result is
scuffing and accelerated wear.
- Keep your wheels aligned. Misaligned wheels
can cause the tires to wear up to 10 times faster than normal.
They can also cause the rapid wear in the ball joints and shock absorbers. Do
not drive carelessly to knock them out of alignment.
